Impolite Front Office Manager, Hollie Buccellato Elkins; Will Not Return In reference to service experienced on July 14th, 2017: Before I take the time to explain this bad review, let it be known, I am a very busy mother/local/professional/traveler that keeps a full schedule, who has a history of maybe 3 written reviews total – none on Google – and zero negative. For this to be impactful enough for me to take the time to share my visit, I only hope my review is expressed in the most benevolent and informational way possible so that you can make your own choice in finding the best dentist in our area. My son is 7 years old, his front 2 top front teeth have been loose for 8 weeks. After inspecting them and finding the bottoms had turned a pink color, I quickly googled Gulf Shores area dentist, picked the top recommendation with 5 stars, and made an appointment. Luckily, my son had visited this office once before so I knew he would be comfortable and no paperwork would be needed. Good to go, right? We arrive and quickly are called back. Our hygienist was very friendly and my son felt right at ease. Shortly after, one of the front office ladies, Betty Paul, came to tell me my insurance had been cancelled since our last visit. No problem, my company made some changes months ago so I told her I would call my insurance rep to send me the new information. I called two times, while in the room with my son still getting his teeth cleaned - my rep was with someone in her office, so I left an urgent message. I checked my emails and found some information in the meantime, I asked Mrs. Paul to see if the information I had was correct. She came back to the room to tell me it was not, (I am not an expert on insurance – I call my rep all the time and I am sure I’m not alone in this category). Meanwhile, I am still trying to support my son and make sure he has a pleasurable experience at his second dentist appointment ever, yet I have been interrupted two times, with the second time now with a sense of urgency. So, I hurry to call my rep a third time. She is still with her customer. It has been the sum of 15 minutes at the most. I leave a message of urgency and the secretary has promised to give her the message as soon as she can speak to her. While this is happening, my son’s cleaning is complete and the dentist has come in and is trying to speak with us both. Now I feel like I am being rude, trying to insure I get this mishap taken care of. The visit was over shortly after and I go to check out. I let Hollie, the Front Office Manager, know I was just waiting for my insurance rep to return my call, so I would need just a moment. She quickly responded pompously that I would have to pay $217.00 before leaving the office and I could bill back to the insurance company. Now ordinarily, I would kindly agree to this and go about my day; I manage 272 investment owners, I am very much aware of the customer service industry, so when I say Hollie was extremely rude, I say that with the filtration of experiencing rude people quite frequently. I then informed Hollie that I would not be paying - (because in what world do people pay rude people when they don’t have an obligation to?) - because I have insurance, the insurance I was currently trying to provide her with. She then informed me (now with a sharp condescending look and more attitude) I could not leave until payment was received in full, and she didn’t know why I had not taken care of this before coming into the office but this was their policy. By this point, not only has the Front Office personnel taken time away from a mother supporting her child in a possibly scary experience, Hollie has now caused the business in which she represents a customer, and potential customers. In addition, a truthful review that will hopefully expose how one unprofessional employee can taint an entire business. I do wish my son would not have to change his dentist due to one employee with the carelessness to use such tactless measures, though I feel he will benefit from a better environment.
